Eye Serum: the origin story

Eye Serum: the origin story

Do you really need an eye cream?

While I’ve long been in the “sooner or later, you’ll need an eye product in your routine” camp, I’m now firmly in the “sooner” camp. Because, as I noted here on Substack, the skin around our eyes is different from the skin on the rest of our faces — it’s half as thick, and thus shows signs of aging and fatigue more quickly.

It’s also:
a) extra-vulnerable to the sun and other environmental exposures
b) prone to fine lines, since the muscles underneath are constantly in motion
c) predisposed to redness, dark circles, and puffiness due to the rich vascular network underneath that supports the health of the eyes

You could, theoretically, wait until you really notice something you don’t like around your eyes (like dark circles or fine lines) before you start using an eye product. But in my view, it’s sort of like sunscreen…pushed out by a few decades. In other words, once you hit your mid-twenties or thirties, the earlier you start using an antioxidant-rich product around your eyes, the better. It’ll help you stave off some of these issues for as long as possible.

And if you’re reading this and thinking, “Huh! That’s a few decades too late for me,” I’m with you — and please pull yourself out of that quicksand, because it’s not too late at all.

I made the Eye Serum to remind us that products made specifically for the eye area are important; to show us that they can really make a difference; and to prove that super-powerful products can suit super-sensitive skin, too. It’s a refreshing and deeply hydrating gel-cream, powered by marine botanicals and ginger, that encourages a fresher, firmer, better-rested look around the eyes.

And it is, hands down, the fastest (topical) path I’ve found to brightness in this frequently-fraught-with-concerns area of the face.

It took a very long time to get this one right, mainly because of the texture: I wanted it to be a gel-cream that wouldn’t scare off people who can’t use super-rich formulas due to milia, but also wanted it to be substantial enough so that those who struggle with dryness around the eyes would feel taken care of. And I also wanted it to have just the right amount of play time for a light lymphatic drainage massage when you apply it, further helping with unwanted puff.

One of the first people I sent this formula to is a wonderful lady named Martha, who’s one of our biggest fans at Ayla. One of the things I adore about Martha is that she tells it like it is: she doesn’t love everything, but she has an uncanny way of identifying winners, so I particularly like to get her feedback on products.

This was her report:
“The Eye Serum is the first product I’ve tried that showed results immediately. Applied at night and woke to fresh, un-puffy, tight eyes. This is a winner. Please send more, so I can be ‘sure’? (Hahaha.)”

I think she’s right: it does seem to be stunningly effective.

Check out what the Eye Serum can do; it’s an awesome product. And yes, the sooner you start using it, the better.

For extra credit, try some lymphatic massage along with it. This is exciting: the peerless lymphatic massage expert, Cecily Braden (mentioned in this post about lymphatic massage) put one together just for this Eye Serum. You'll find it right here.
